Sizing

What size propane tank do I need?

Add up the BTU rating of everything you want to run, then factor the climate. Broadly: 120 gallon for a single appliance or a standby generator; 250 gallon for heat and hot water in a smaller home; 500 gallon for a whole house with heat, water, range and dryer; 1000 gallon and up for large homes, farms, shops and commercial kitchens. If you sit between two sizes, go up — a tank that never drops below 30% refills cheaper and lasts longer.

How much propane does a tank actually hold?

About 80% of its water capacity, because propane expands. A 500 gallon tank holds roughly 400 gallons of propane when properly filled. Every capacity on this site is the water capacity, which is the industry convention.

Above ground or underground?

Above ground is cheaper, faster to install, easier to service and you can read the gauge without opening a dome. Underground is chosen when the tank has to be out of sight or the plot cannot give up the clearances. Same ASME vessel either way — the underground version is coated and comes with a riser and a magnesium anode bag for corrosion protection.

Condition and certification

Is a certified used tank safe?

Yes, when it is documented. Every used vessel we sell has a live ASME or DOT stamp, has passed a pressure test, and ships with a photograph of its data plate plus the test paperwork. What used does not mean is cosmetically new — there will be scuffs, and we photograph them rather than shoot around them.

What is the difference between ASME and DOT?

ASME vessels are built for permanent stationary installation — the tanks that sit on a property. DOT cylinders are built to be moved and refilled elsewhere, like the 100 lb cylinders and forklift bottles. Some smaller units carry both stamps. If you are not sure which your application needs, call us.

Buying and paying

Why do some tanks say “price on request”?

Because on those units the figure genuinely moves with condition, fittings and your delivery distance — skid tanks, transport trailers and larger bulk vessels especially. It is not a stock problem. Send the delivery ZIP and we will quote the tank and the freight together.

Do you take credit cards?

No, deliberately. We settle by Zelle, bank wire, Cash App, Chime, Apple Pay and cryptocurrency. Keeping card processing out of the business keeps the prices down on equipment this heavy, and no card details are ever entered on this website.

Is the crypto discount real?

Yes. Select cryptocurrency at checkout and 2% comes off the order total immediately — you see it as a line on the order before you place it. We accept BTC, ETH and USDT, and the quoted crypto amount is held for 30 minutes against the market rate.

When do you actually charge me?

Never automatically. You place the order, it lands with us as awaiting payment, and we email the payment details with your invoice. Nothing is taken until you send it, and nothing ships until it clears.

Delivery

What does delivery cost and how long does it take?

Flat $540 per tank anywhere in the contiguous United States. Typical dispatch is within 48 hours of cleared payment, with 3–10 business days in transit depending on distance. Remote or limited-access sites and crane deliveries can carry a surcharge, which we quote before you pay.

Do you install the tank?

No. We supply and deliver. Propane tanks must be set and commissioned by a licensed propane professional under NFPA 58 and your local code. Ask us and we will usually know someone in your area.

Can I collect from the yard?
